What Is Consignment Based Sale?
In simple words, consignment is when you give your asset to someone to sell on your behalf. You do not hand over your watch to a random person but to a professional watchmaker who will attempt to sell the watch safely and promptly for you, trying to achieve the price you want.
The rules and terms of the consignment are set out straight in a contract stating the time, when and how you will be paid.
We will discuss and advise on a fixed amount you’ll receive when your watch sells, and with your confirmation, we will put your watch on sale on various marketplaces. When your watch sells, we will send you the payment immediately.
There is a lot of hassle when you decide to sell your watch on your own. You will need to do all the work yourself to ensure you crack a fair deal. But with a consignment, the onus is on us to help you fetch the best selling price. You will benefit not only from our experience but also from our reputation and large customer database.
Here’s an example of consignment:
- You decide to sell your watch and looking for a particular price.
- For example, you want £10,000. So, we consign your watch for £10,000
- The Luxury Hut then markets your timepiece for a slightly higher price than £10,000 to thousands of customers.
- If we sell your watch, then we pay you the agreed price (in this case £10,000) immediately while retaining the outstanding balance.
- And if the watch doesn’t sell for whatever reason – normally because it is priced too high, then the agreement will be terminated and the watch is returned to you.
